Sasha Meyer. I'm a college sophomore at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, but an original Southern California girl. I love making music, listening to music, and using it as my medicine and best friend when everything else seems to be falling apart. I hate unnecessary drama. I love the rain. Some people would say I'm quirky, and they're probably right. I like to do what makes me happy. I refer to John Wooden books and quotes whenever I'm feeling upset, since they make me love again. My parents and my two older sisters are my role models. I appreciate the little things that people do. I love kids, and my dream is to be an elementary school teacher by day and play in a community orchestra by night. I take things for granted, but I'm trying to stop. I don't believe you can ever laugh "too much."

  • Dad: Are there any other pool games we could play?
  • Amy: We could play "toothpick"!
  • Dad: What's that?
  • Amy: It's where someone throws a toothpick in the pool, and everyone stands outside of the pool and they jump in when they think they see it, and they have to grab the toothpick
  • Dad: Oh. I thought we just look at your legs.

This Valentine’s Day was actually a lot better than I was expecting it to be. I went to bed last night kind of in the dumps, hopelessly moping about the fact that I don’t really have anyone special to spend the day with. When I woke up, though, there was a new light shining (not literally, of course, because I’m in Oregon and it’s rainy today…what else is new, eh?) on today. My classes went well; my nutrition professor said something like “Happy Valentine’s Day! Go call someone and tell them you love them!” which really got me thinking positively. Today is a day to appreciate all loved ones in our lives, whether or not we do have a significant other. In past years, I’ve never really thought much about this, but it’s great to view this day in that way.

I got a care package from home! It was filled with Sees chocolates, hearts pencils, pink balloons, a huge banner that says “Happy Valentine’s Day,” hot cheetos, mac n’ cheese, a hearts tablecloth, a hearts necklace, heart cutouts, sugar cookie mix, blueberry muffins mix, and cupcake cups with hearts on them. Meghan (the roomie) and I decided to put the banner, heart cutouts, and balloons to use (why not, right?). We inflated all of the balloons and threw the out into the hallway, so they’re all over the floor. Then we took the heart cutouts and put the little hearts on everyone’s door on this floor, and the bigger hearts randomly on the walls. To finish it off, we put the huge “HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY” banner hanging in front of our door. Ahhhhh it was nice to spread the love with our floormates :)

But wait, it gets better! So last week, we entered our names in a raffles for a fancy Valentine’s Day dinner in our dining hall (3-course meal, fancy tablecloth, everything), and found out we didn’t win. But Caitlin got an email this afternoon saying a group cancelled, and she was chosen as a back-up and can bring three friends! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Oh my goodness, I’m so excited for super great food! It’s also great because it’s Maria’s birthday today, so she invited Maria and Tyra as well…birthday celebration! I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS <3333

I’m definitely gonna call home tonight just to tell my parents that I love them. I don’t envy the couples I see around campus at all, for I have so many others that love me and that I love in return.

YAY, SPREAD THE LOVE, THE SMILES, AND THE HUGS. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, EVERYONE! :’)
